Summer League Match Format
Following consultation with Club members and captains last autumn, Woodthorpe TC looked to bring about a change in the Notts LTA Summer League format from 3 rubbers of 2 sets each, to 3 rubbers of 16 games ie as per the Winter League but with 12 more games in total per pair.
Despite a 36-19 vote in favour of the proposal at the EGM on 03/03/15, sadly the two thirds majority required to secure change wasn't achieved. As a result the format will remain as it is now with one significant change - a tiebreak will be played at 5-5 meaning sets cannot now be 'halved'.
The Short Format league will continue to run, so let the Club and team captains know if you're interested in representing the Club and in which league.

Notts LTA Summer League 2014 is upon us; download the fixtures to see when your team is in action.
We've had a couple of fixtures so far: mixed 1 beat mixed 2 to kick off their Division 2 campaigns, and Nigel's men's 3 team were defeated by promotion candidates East Bridgford 1 in Div 4A.

Congratulations to our mixed 1st and mixed 2nd teams both of whom won promotion from Division 2 into Division 1. The mixed 3rds also had a good season, maintaining their place in the middle of Division 4.
The ladies 1st also achieved promotion from Division 2 to Division 1, and the ladies 2nd team won the Division 4 title.
The mens 3rds picked up promotion back to division 4, whilst the mens 2nd team pushed themselves up from Division 2 to Division 1. The mens 1st team encountered a tough season in Division 1 and have been relegated.

A quick run down as the winter season finally starts to draw to a close.
Congratulations to ladies 2nds who have comfortable won division 4.
Mixed 1sts looking likely to have secured promotion back to division 1, the Mixed 2nds have also had a good season and should finish in 3rd place in division 2.
Mens 2nds also look likely to have gained promotion from division 2 to division 1.

Mixed 1st team look odds on to secure their 1st division status for another year - wins against our mixed 2nd team and West Bridgford 2nds leave the team with 2 wins from 4 in a tough division 1.
The Mens 1sts struggled with the weather and holidays on Saturday, going down 12.5 - 5.5 to Farnsfield.... the mens 2nds however have made a good start to their season in division 3 with two wins in three matches.
Don't forget - mens and ladies team practices run throughout the year (unless the weather is terrible) - ladies night is on a Monday from 6.30pm, men's practice night starts at 7pm on a Tuesday night.

We currently run 3 teams in the Nottingham Indoor league.
The 2nds who are currently sat in Division 2 secured their status in this division for next year with a 1 game win over Farnsfield this weekend.
Our 1st team are looking to get themselves back into Division 2 and are well on there way after winning their first 5 games, so look set to join the 2nds in Division 2 next year.
The 3rd team, with two fixtures left are in need of a win to lift themselves out of the relegation zone in Division 4 but with two matches left against teams in the bottom half of the table securing status in Division 4 next year looks a realistic possibility.

The Men's team were promoted back to summer league division 1 following the conclusion of their protracted summer league fixture list. A fine win over West Bridgford 2nds pushed Woodthorpe back into division 1 next summer. Jack Bramley and Gary Bearman led the way with an impressive 6 sets backed up by Steve Small and Mick Harris with 2, and Simon Williams and Dave Wright with 2.5
Thanks to everyone who has played in the team this year - a great team and club effort with some very tough and very long matches.

The final games of summer league are still rumbling on. Mens 1sts push for promotion continued with a match against Magdala last week - at 10pm the lights went out with Woodthorpe 9-8 up and 5-4 up in last set but 40-0 on oppositions serve.
LTA rules dictate the set has to be finished, so last night (some 9 days later) the set restarted with Mick Harris and Neil Collishaw receiving serve. Mens team practice came to a halt to watch the conclusion of the set - "wouldn't it be funny if they won 5 points in a row to win it" someone whispered.
A double fault from Magdala, an exocet inside out forehand from Neil and some canny slicing and lobbing from Mick got the score from 0-40 to advantage to Woodthorpe. A missed volley from Magdala, a roar from the crowd and the miracle was complete. 9 days to organise it, 10 minute warm up and 3 minutes on court to seal the win. Marvellous.
The team (finally) finish their summer campaign at home versus West Bridgford 2nds on Thursday of this week, a win will seal promotion to Division 1 for next summer.
