Nottinghamshire Police Championship Tournament

Posted on June 8, 2015 at 6:00 AM

Dear Members,

We were approached by one of our members Det Sgt Alan Dawson, about the possibility of the Nottinghamshire Police hiring some of our courts for their Championship Tournament. On The Ball Coaching also provided their support to the event and Matt Wildt gave some of his time to assist - Thank you!

We're very happy that the tournament was a success and I'd like to extend our thanks to the Police Service for considering Woodthorpe Tennis Club as your venue of choice.

Please see a letter of thank you and photos of the day.

If any of our members would like to host a tournament with your work colleagues, then please contact the Committee and we can discuss the opportunity with you.

Best regards

Richard Startin

Club Secretary

Thank You Letter

Volunteers to help at the Learning Disability event to be held at the Nottingham Tennis Centre

Posted on April 30, 2015 at 10:55 AM

Dear Members,

In 2015 the Tennis Foundation will again be running a series of Regional tournaments for athletes with a learning disability. There will be five tournaments across Great Britain culminating in a National Finals Event in October.

This regional series of tournaments will provide the opportunity for many athletes to participate in local competition. Those that play will be of all abilities and many require extra support both on and off the court to ensure that their competitive experience is a positive one. Many athletes who compete in these tournaments will have the opportunity to be selected to represent Great Britain in Special Olympics European and World Games and the top players in INAS elite level International competitions.

Each regional tournament will be held over a weekend at an indoor venue and there will also be LTA Licensed Officials working on all the matches but we are looking for enthusiastic volunteers aged 14 or over with an interest in tennis, to be Court Supervisors. No experience is necessary and the role will involve the following;

  • Escort players on to the correct court from the court holding area
  • Assist players to be ready to serve or receive
  • Ensure that the court is clear of any tennis balls prior to the start of each point
  • Ensure players take a break at the change of ends and take on fluids when needed
  • Ensure players take a break at the change of ends and take on fluids when needed
  • Escort players from the court back to the court holding area when match is complete

Court Supervisors will be required on the days of the tournament from 8.30am to 6pm. Each volunteer will receive a free t-shirt & sweatshirt and lunch & drinks each day.

Without the help of willing volunteers, many of the athletes would not be able to compete, so your support is vital for them. If you are able to volunteer your time at your local tournament, please complete the reply slip below and return to the appropriate tournament organiser.

We look forward to hearing from you

Kind regards

Kirsty Thomson
